Wednesday's Tutorial -- Shimmer Paint

One of the items that is still available for purchase from last season's Holiday Mini is the Shimmer Paint.  I thought it would be fun to show a video on how to use this wonderful product.

This non-toxic product is available in 3 colors (Champagne Mist, Frost White, and Platinum) and is only $5.95 through my on-line store at http://karenhaden.stampinup.net  

Shimmer paint adds a vibrant dimension that enhances the look of anything without actually changing its basic appearance.  It is pigment ink, so you can do almost anything with it that you can do with ink—you can stamp with it, cover an entire section of card stock or paper with it, or apply it over a stamped image or Rub-On.  Just apply it with a sponge or sponge dauber directly to a stamp or paper.

Tri-Fold Shutter Card with Fox & Friends

One of the cards we made at my classes this weekend was a Tri-fold Shutter Card.  We used the Fox & Friends stamp set from the Occasions mini catalog and also the sentiment from the Whimsical Words set, which is also from the Occasions mini.  I promised my gals that I would post the instructions on my blog today.

 

TRI-FOLD SHUTTER CARD TUTORIAL

 

Step 1:  Cut a piece of card stock 10-1/2" x 5-1/2" 

 

Step 2:  In landscape orientation, score in from the left:  1-3/4" and at 3-1/2"

Step 3:  Score in from the right: 1-3/4" and at 3-1/2"

 

 

 

 Step 4:  Make a CUT 1-1/2" down from the top edge and 1-1/2" up from the bottom edge, making sure your cut line is ONLY from the first score mark, to the last score mark, as shown at right with red lines.

 

 

 

 

 

Step 5:  Fold sections forward and back, in the manner that will facilitate the fold of the card. 

The picture at the right is looking down at the card.

 

 

 

 

 

The photo at the left shows the folds as the card is flat on the table.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Step 6:  Fold the card back to lie flat, and start embellishing panels. You can use Designer Series Paper or stamp coordinating cardstock to layer, as well.

NOTE:  This card has two end panels which are 5-1/4" x 1-1/2", two top and bottom panels which are 3-1/4" x 1-1/4". If you want to make four tiny panels instead of using punches, the measurements would be 1-1/2" x 1-1/4".

Country Morning Birthday Wishes

Friday's featured cards uses one of my favorite stamp sets, Country Morning.  This a a Hostess Level 1 stamp set that consists of 4 stamps.  I really love the line-images as they are great for using the Stampin' Write Markers with, which is what we'll be using in class this weekend.

I also used the 'happy birthday' sentiment from the Occasions mini stamp set, Well Scripted.

Top Note Purse Card

 

I really meant to post this earlier today but life got in the way.  One of my little grand-babies got sick and I had to help her mommy take care of big brother while mommy took care of her.  Before I knew it the day got away from me.  But, Emma is feeling much better, Max is back home with Emma and Mommy, and I have my evening to play catch-up with my blogging

 

So finally here is today's featured Top Note purse card.  It is very easy to make using any 2-sided Designer Paper.  Just clip off the points on either side and fold over the top.  Add ribbon for the handle and any embellishment for the fastener.  This card is really much prettier in person.

Vintage Vogue Friendship Card

 

Here is my version of a tea bag card, using the Vintage Vogue stamp set from the Occasions mini catalog.  

 

 I used the Bridesmaid Specialty Designer Paper and cut one piece out with the Clear Scallop Die, repeating with a piece of Very Vanilla card stock.  These pieces are the front and back of the card.  Using Sending Love Specialty Designer Paper, I cut out one envelope using the Sizzix Envelop Die.  

 

I then cut a piece of Real Red card stock measuring 8.5" x 3.75" scoring at 4" and 4.5".  I adhered a piece of ribbon to the back of the card stock then attached the front and back scalloped pieces to the Real Red card stock.  The ribbon is actually sandwiched between the pieces.

 

I then added the designer envelop to the right side of the card, making sure to keep the flap up.  The tea bag will fit inside.

I then randomly stamped a piece of 3.5” x 3.5” Very Vanilla card stock and adhered it to the inside of card on left side.  Using the Scallop Oval Punch, I punched out a piece of Real Red card stock.  I stamped the sentiment on Very Vanilla card stock and punched it out with the Large Oval Punch.  I adhered this to the  scalloped card stock, and then to the inside of card.

These would be great to make ahead and keep in your desk at work.  Then, when one of your co-workers is not feeling well, what a nice gesture it would make to hand them this card.  Or, decorate it as a birthday card and add a piece of candy inside!  This really is a great friendship card.

 

Embossed Butterflies

It's another snowy day in Indiana -- it's hard to believe there are only a few more weeks until spring arrives.  To get us in the mood, I thought we'd make this pretty card for this weekend's classes.  It's very easy to make but has such an elegant look and is the perfect card for someone going through a tough time.

 

The card uses the stamp set Vintage Vogue, from the Occasions mini catalog.  It is available in both wood-mount and clear-mount.  It also uses the Beautiful Wings Embosslits Die from the Occasions mini. This chemically-etched die cuts and embosses a Beautiful Wings at the same time, creating a beautiful look .   The 'Life happens. Love helps' sentiment also comes from the stamp set Vintage Vogue.

 

Whimsical Bird Card

Stamp Camp is coming up on Saturday, February 20th, and Sunday, February 21st for my club members and customers so each day this week I'll post one of the projects we will be making.  The first project is a pretty card using the Petals-a-Plenty Textured Impressions Folder  and a wooden oval frame.  We'll also be using the new Extra Large Two Step Bird Punch, Item #117191 in the Occasions mini catalog and the Sending Love Specialty Designer Paper, item #117153, also in the Occasions mini.  For the sentiment, we will be using the Whimsical Words from the Sale-A-Bration mini catalog, which is FREE with a $50 purchase of other Stampin' Up! merchandise.  Don't you just love the polka dot ribbon with the hemp twine, for  a whimsical touch? 

Chocolate Bunny

Lent starts next week so, as always, I'll probably give up candy for Lent (at least for a week).  To appease my appetite for chocolate, I'll just have to make my Chocolate Bunny, item #116980, keep me satisfied!  Here's a card I've been playing around with this week.  Doesn't the bunny look good enough to eat?  I also used the Oval Scallop Frame Sizzix Die, Item #114521, and the Perfect Polk Dots Textured Impressions Folder, item #117335 , for the Easter egg.
