I am having a meeting on Saturday, May 1st for the gals in my Stampin' Up! downline and I've been working on the things we will be doing.  Besides discussing the new things Stampin' Up! has in store for us in the coming months, we will be doing a shoebox swap where everyone will design and demonstrate a cardfront.  Everyone will then get a chance to make each swap. 

As a bonus, besides my swap using a new item from the Summer Mini, I designed an additional card as I wanted to teach the gals how to make a paper flower using the Fancy Flower Punch, Item #118073, ($15.95) which is currently in the Occasions Mini.  We will be using Designer Specialty Paper but you can also use regular cardstock to make the flower.  You just have to remember to spritz your flowers before assembling as the cardstock is a little thicker than our Designer Paper.

Paper Rose Tutorial

At my last Stamp Camp we made a paper rose using the Ornament Punch that was featured in the Holiday Mini catalog.  I promised that I would post the instructions on how to make the paper rose so the girls could duplicate it.  It's really easy -- you just need a good adhesive such as Sticky Strip, Item #104294 ($6.95).

 

 

 

Start with about 22 ornament punches in your choice of color.  The more punches (petals) you have the fuller your rose will be.  The Ornament Punch is item #116794 ($15.95).  If you want the rose to have two tones, sponge edges of each petal with coordinating color.  I also love the look of a solid color.

 

 

 

With a Stylus, curl the edges of each petal.  You want about 1/3 of the petals to be curled slightly, 1/3 curled so they look like a U when you look from a side view, 1/3 curled considerably and 1 totally curled. 

 

 

Punch a 1-3/4″ Circle and then start working around the circle to adhere the petals.  Begin with the least curled petals.  Use Sticky Strip to adhere each petal to the circle to make sure once all the weight of the flower is added it’s going to stay in place.

 

Continue working around the circle to attach the petals, using up all of the least curled petals and then work to the next level saving the most curled for the end.  As you get closer to the center of the flower you’ll want to make the edges of your petals overlap more, this will help to lift them up and give the flower shape.

Add leaves to the bottom of the flower, using either the Ornament Punch to make the leaves or use the Leaves #2 Sizzix Die.  For my 'Regal Rose' flower I used the Sizzix Flower Bigz Die, Item #114535, ($19.95) for the base and then adhered 5 ornament punch 'leaves.'  I then added the finished flower to the base.

A Special Birthday Card

Today I received a beautiful birthday card from a very dear friend of mine who lives in Michigan.  She always does great work and is very creative.  I haven't figured out why she isn't a demonstrator yet, lol.  Anyway, I wanted to share the birthday card Jen S. made for me.

Happy Birthday to Taylor

Yesterday was my youngest granddaughter's birthday.  While her mommy, daddy and big brother celebrated her 2nd birthday last evening, the rest of us are getting together on Sunday for her big celebration.  She loves Dora so it is going to be a Dora-themed party, complete with a Dora cake.  I think she was a little disappointed yesterday that she had to wait for the Dora cake!

Anyway, I took the party invitation and turned it into her birthday card.  The sparkle on Dora's hair is Dazzling Diamonds to give her some glitter.  I think Taylor will  really like her birthday card!

Tutorial Tuesday - Watercolor Wonder Crayons

One of my favorite Stampin' Up! products are the Watercolor Wonder Crayons.  There are so many ways to use them and I love the way my cards look like I actually watercolored them.  While these crayons currently come in our color families, I'm not sure what changes Stampin' Up! has in store for us.  I'm sure they will probably repackage them into the new Color Collections and include the new colors we will be getting in July.  At any rate, I think whether you  have the current crayons, or will purchase the repackaged crayons, you will love this video as Shannon West demonstrates how to use Stampin' Up!'s Watercolor Wonder Crayons.

 

 

Zoom Zoom! Sneek Peak from the Summer Mini

 I had a great time on Saturday and Sunday at my scrapbooking classes.  It was refreshing to work on spring scrapbook pages.  My next Scrapbook Stamp Camp wlll be held on the 3rd weekend in May.  We will be meeting on Saturday, May 15th, at 10:00 a.m. and on Sunday, May 16th, at 1:00 p.m.  The class fee will be $15.00 and we will again be making two 2-page 12x12 scrapbook pages and one 3-D project.  If you would like to attend one of the sessions, please RSVP at stamping@karenhaden.com

In the meantime, I'm getting ready to attend a Stampin' Up! meeting tomorrow evening at my Upline's house.  Everyone is taking a 'shoebox swap' so I've been busy preparing mine.  I'm using the Motorcycle stamp from the upcoming Summer Mini which will debut on May 1st.  While I can't show you the actual stamp yet, I can show you the card I've designed for my swap.  It also uses some of the new Island Oasis Designer Series Paper in the Summer Mini, along with a new Stampin' Up! Square Lattice Textured Impressions Embossing Folder.  I think this card would make a great masculine birthday card or Father's Day card.

My Shopping Folder

Okay, I'm anxiously awaiting a Stampin' Up' demonstrator order which contains pre-order items from the Summer mini catalog which will debut on May 1st.  You should be receiving a copy of the catalog in the mail soon; if not contact me at stamping@karenhaden.com to receive your catalog, as my extra minis should be arriving soon.

 

I was a little late getting my order in -- I just couldn't make up my mind what I wanted to start with.  The order is supposed to arrive tomorrow morning which will give me just enough time to prepare swaps for a shoebox exchange for an Upline Meeting next week.

Anyway, while waiting for the order I started working on another project.  I needed something to hold my grocery shopping list and my coupons so I folded a file folder in quarters and decorated it with designer paper from the current Occasions mini, called Shades of Spring, item 117160.  While I kept it simple, this is a project you could really let your imagination run wild with.

 

Video Tuesday - Simply Adorned

Stampin' Up! has a new product line called Simply Adorned for all you jewelry lovers! Simply Adorned charms are like lockets—they open up so you can insert your custom stamped image. The frame surrounds tempered beveled glass on the front and flat glass on the back. There’s glass on both sides of the charm, so you can display an image on one side or both. You can create a custom heirloom piece that you’ll never want to change, or you can swap artwork in and out, depending on your mood and your wardrobe. Charms are also great for holding photos.  Here is a wonderful video featuring this new product line.
