I must apologize to my stampers who attended my May stamping classes this past weekend. When I design my projects for upcoming classes, I don't do them all the same day. So sometimes I forget and duplicate some of the techniques -- such as "fussy cutting." That is exactly what happened this month. We have gotten so used to Stampin' Up! having punches and framelits to cut out our stamped images, that I heard many groans when I told the ladies to get out their scissors because we have to "fussy cut" the stamped image. The reason for the groans -- 4 of my projects this month needed lots of "fussy cutting." On the positive side, everyone got lots of practice cutting out images!
INSTRUCTIONS
- Cut a piece of Crumb Cake card stock to measure 8-1/4” x 9”
- Score along the 9” side at 2-1/8”, 4-1/4”, 6-3/8” and 8-1/2”
- Turn 90 degrees and score at 2-3/4”
- With the 8-1/4” side on the top and your 2-3/4” score to the left, cut cardstock to measure 6” Save the “scrap” piece that is cut off .
- Measure the ‘scrap piece’ and cut to 3-1/8, making sure to include the ‘tab.’ After it is cut this piece will have a ‘tab’ on each side. Cut this piece in 1/2 lengthwise so you will have two strips, each having a tab at both ends. Fold the tabs in a ‘z’ and adhere Tear & Stick Tape to ends. Set aside.
- Trim along the small half of main card stock so that card measures 5-1/4”; turn main cardstock so that the larger half is on the bottom and cut along the small square score lines to create flaps. Trim off the tiny strip on the left as you do not need it. You will be left with the narrow tab.
- Fold on the long creases. Use Tear & Stick Tape to adhere box together. Fold back the flaps on the front and two sides. Do not fold the back flap. This will be the back of the card-in-a-box.
- To make the box sturdier, I added a piece of 2” x 5-1/4” card stock the same color as my box and adhered it to the inside of the back flap (this is the piece that was not folded back). Stamp a 2” x 5-1/4” piece of Whisper White card stock with the swirl from the Everything Elenor stamp set. Adhere to the inside of the back of the card.
- Adhere 2” x 2-18” Have a Cuppa Designer Series Paper Stack to the inside of the front and side flaps.
- Add the two ‘z’ strips inside the box.
- Stamp and punch out your stamped Zoo Babies, balloons, etc. and layer them to your ‘z’ flaps.
- Embellish your card-in-a-box as desired.
