Tutorial: Slide & Lock Card

Today I wanted to show you a really cute card with a unique fold.  It's a bit trickier to make but it really creates a big wow!  I used the Island Vibes stamp set that you get FREE but only through the end of February for a $50 purchase in Stampin' Up! merchandise.  However, any stamp set would work for this card.

 

GATE FOLD BASE

1. Cut a piece of 4-1/4” x 11” Basic White Thick cardstock and score at 2-3/4” on each side Fold towards the center and crease with a Bone Folder.  Open up and trim just about 1/16” off one end.  This is important for the insert to lock into place.

2. Cut two pieces of 2-1/2” x 4” New Horizons Designer Series Paper and adhere to the panels. You will need to trim one piece about 1/16” for mimic that side of the gate fold.   Stamp “Thinking of You on you special day” from the Inspired Thoughts Stamp Set  inside.

 

SLIDE & LOCK LAYER

1. Cut 4 pieces of Basic White cardstock to measure 3-1/2 x 3-1/2”

2. Score 2 of the pieces in half at 1-3/4” and fold and crease to create two hinges.

3. Adhere each folded piece, lining up the folded edge to the center of one of the Basic White pieces.

4. Adhere and “sandwich” these pieces to the remaining 3-1/2” x 3-1/2” cardstock.  This makes your locking layer.

5. Adhere a piece of 3-1/4” x 3-1/4” Pale Papaya cardstock to the front of the locking layer.

6. Adhere a piece of 2021-2023 Designer Series Paper to the locking layer over the Pale Papaya.

7. On a scrap piece of Basic White cardstock, stamp the pineapple Island Vibes Stamp Set in Early Espresso Ink and color using an Old Olive Stampin’ Blend. Cut out pineapple and adhere to the front using Stampin’ Dimensionals.

8. Cut out a 1/2” x 3” strip of Basic White cardstock and stamp “Congratulations” on it. Adhere to the front.  Adhere embellishments randomly to the front.

9. Stamp inside with sentiment and image. Slide locking layer over flaps on the card base.
